For years, I’ve been a vocal advocate for building personalized blended learning environments. I’ve lived and breathed Dr. Catlin Tucker‘s definition: a formal education structure where students have some element of control over the time, place, path, and pace of their learning.
But recently, I had a realization. The “why” isn’t just about modernizing the classroom.
It’s about Agency.
When we move away from the “sage on the stage” model and into a blended environment, the teacher stops being the bottleneck for information, and the student starts being the driver of their own discovery.
The reason I run professional development events and present at conferences is to help educators design ecosystems where students are active agents, not passive recipients.
This January, I’m taking this mission to Future of Education Technology Conference, and I’d love for you to join the conversation. I’ll be co-presenting two sessions that dive deep into how we maintain this focus on student-centered learning in the rapidly evolving age of AI:
AI-Powered Planning: Build, Teach, and Assess Student-Centered Learning with Confidence (with the incredible Stephanie Howell). We’ll show you how to use AI to handle the heavy lifting of planning so you can focus on what matters: the students.
What Does it Mean to be Literate in the Age of AI? (with the brilliant Bill Bass). We’re re-examining the very foundation of literacy and how we empower students to navigate this new landscape with agency.
If we want students to be “future-ready,” we have to give them the keys to the car today. Blended learning is the vehicle; agency is the destination.
